We know you may have some questions. Here are a few we may be able to answer for you.
GENERAL FAQ
-
Do the Automatic Bays ever close? The bays will shut down at 20 degrees Fahrenheit for safety.

How Does a Touchless Car Wash Work? When you drive into a touchless car wash, a sensor guides you to drive forward into the correct position. The system then engages an automated robot that wets your car, rinses off loose grime, applies cleaning agents, rinses them away, and then applies any specialty/upgraded treatments, such as liquid wax or tire foam. Once it concludes, lights direct you to pull forward through a stream of hot, dry air, delivered by blowers.

What kind of products does Watermill use on my vehicle? We have gone to extreme lengths to make sure that Watermill has the best soaps available to provide a safe clean that gets the job done, and never uses any acids. Most car washes use harmful, aggressive chemicals and detergents to burn dirt off quickly. Some of the other chemicals are acids and what we know about acids is that they keep working until they are neutralized. Going through fast washes, those acids are not 100% neutralized, so some of it keeps working and can cause long term damage with repeated exposure and longer periods of time. If you’ve heard that touchless car washes have to use acids (usually from your detailer or a car group), that is mostly true – except at Watermill, where you can always count on our soaps to be acid free thanks to our propriety blends. Most gas station washes, express tunnels and car washes that highlight how “fast” they are, are using acids to speed up the process to get more cars through faster. This part is physics. Another area where Watermill separates is our Spot Free Water. Most car washes don’t use true spot-free water, and it’s a choice. Spot-Free water doesn’t move as fast off of the car drying, so some car washes will use untreated water to the wash dries faster. We chose to make sure we use 99.995% mineral free water so that we never leave hard water spots on the vehicle – even if that means that a few extra drops of water are left on the car, they are safe.
-
Does each wash include an undercarriage wash?Yes, all of our wash levels include the undercarriage wash. The Superior Plus wash also adds our unique polymer protectant to the undercarriage to prevent corrosion.
-
What is the maximum height of the Automatic Bay?The Automatic Bays have a maximum clearance of 7'6". Due to some of our wash levels have contouring features, just fitting below the clearance bar is not good enough. Please read all caution signs carefully. Any attachments on your vehicle may be lower than the clearance bar, but you still need to use the Express Wash ONLY to prevent damage.
-
What is the maximum width of the Automatic Bay?The Automatic Bays have a maximum width of 8'0" (96 inches). Because of the movement of the wash, just fitting through the door is not enough room. Please read all caution signs carefully. Any attachments on your vehicle may be lower or less wider than the clearance bar, but you still need to use the Express Wash ONLY to prevent damage.
-
Are low profile wheels ok in the auto wash?Low profile rims are defined as when the sidewall is less than 50% of the width of the tire. Vehicles with low profile wheels may use the wash, however because of the lack of tire protecting the rim, please take extra caution when driving into the bay. The guide rails are installed to protect the machine and make sure the vehicle is located in the bay properly for the automatic machine to run safely. Watermill is not responsible for damage caused by wheels rubbing against the protective guide rails.
-
Are rear spoilers safe in the wash?Yes, but if the spoiler is 6" or taller from the vehicle, you can use the Essential wash only. A tall spoiler on any vehicle is an attachment that extends beyond the main body of the vehicle, limiting the level of the wash that may be selected. This includes the Subaru WRX STI, Honda Civic Type R, Ford Focus ST, and any other vehicle that may have a tall spoiler.
-
Can I wash my LARGE truck in the automatic bay?Yes, you can wash most pick up trucks in the Automatic, including extended long cabs, duallys, etc. Large wheels are (up to 12" wide") are welcome. Full size trucks should FOLD IN their side view mirrors to prevent the wash from making contact with the mirrors.
-
Use the EXPRESS wash if you have attachments, why?If you have attachments on your vehicle that extend beyond 6 inches from the main body of the vehicle, the EXPRESS wash is your only option. ANY items that extend 10 inches from the vehicle may NOT be washed in the Automatic Wash at ALL and we recommend a self-serve wash. The Deluxe, Ultimate, and Ultimate + Automatic washes have a maximum width of 8'0" (96 inches). and a maximum clearance of 7'6". These options contour and dry your vehicle. Contouring and drying uses optic sensors to follow the shape of a vehicle, which can limit the touchless wash options. The EXPRESS option does not include contouring or drying. Please read all caution signs carefully. Any attachments on your vehicle may be lower or wider than the clearance bar, you need to use the Express Wash ONLY to prevent damage.
-
Can my low car use a touchless wash? The minimum height to go through the Automatic wash is 4" of ground clearance.
-
I have a rear-mounted spare tire, can I go through the automatic wash?Yes, the Express option only, as long as it does not extend past 10 inches.
-
Why are there rails in the bay?The guide rails in the bay are to make sure that the vehicle is located in the correct spot to safely begin the automatic wash and keep vehicles from running into the machine.
